You need to determine what the TPI is. (threads per inch). A 24 TPI pushrod will require 3 full turns and 3 flats (3.5 turns) to set preload to .145" and a 32 TPI pushrod would require 4 full turns and and 3 flats (4.5 turns) to achieve .140" preload.
They are 24tpi SE tapered adjustable rods. I guess the "old standard" was 2.5 turns which is what my Indy has them set at. Going to readjust tonight to 3.5 turns and see what happens.
I just did S&S Quickee's, A light touch on the lifter and rocker, just enough to stop up and down movement (lash),
Very easy to over tighten, so don't, then 4 full turns.
Let it bleed down (very important) and move on to the next pushrod.
BTW, It's a 1994 Evo.

I am experiencing similar issues with new S&S high capacity tappets and SE adjustable push rods on my big bore build...I adjusted them by the SE instructions at 2.5 turns and checked and readjusted them after 500 miles due to ticking. I was surprised that the front intake was way too loose, and after adjusting them, the rear sounds good, but I am still getting a little tick from the front cylinder. The engine runs strong and smooth but when I did a long trip to Austin and back on Wednesday, I experienced what seemed to me like that same front intake tappet failing when I pushed it hard going up a hill. After reading through this discussion, I am thinking that maybe I should go one more turn and see how it runs but I am very concerned that the one tappet is NFG and these S&S high capacity tappets were not a good choice for this high lift cam and CNC heads and I need to upgrade to a higher performance tappet. Anyone else have any issues with S&S high capacity tappets in a high lift cam build?

While any product can have a defect, S&S lifters have a very good reputation.

I recently purchased Rockouts and they are sitting on my to-do list for the next time I have the tank off. I don't think I am hearing rockers, though. I am thinking I am going to need to go with higher performance tappets but I was hoping to try another turn on the pushrods first...
