I stand corrected on whether or not HD assembles cases using an RTV sealant. I should have been more specific as the earlier reference to sealant was to RTV silicone. I should have said that the HD case sealant was not RTV silicone. I suspect that the HD cases are assemble at the factory via an automated computer controlled process with zero chance for error which is a bit different from a DIY guy assembling cases in the garage. I am not a 25 year Ford tech but have assembled a few HD cases and I will keep using Threebond and/or Yamabond as they are pretty forgiving. The HD sealant might be as well, don't know but Threebond and Yamabond are great products; I have also used them in lieu of base gaskets on cases that have been bored and the o-ring groove eliminate; none have leaked.

What I'm saying is that the Harley sealant is an RTV silicone. Permatex, Yamabond, Threebond, Hondabond, stc are all brand names, not specific products.
I'm not trying to call anyone out, or say that anyone is wrong to use what they're using. I'm just trying to avoid confusion for guys using the forum to help build these engines in their garage. From what I've been able to find, Harley uses an RTV silicone type sealer, one of a great many such products on the market, most of which would probably work.
My recommendation for any engine assembly is to use what the manufacturer calls for or find out the specification and find a comparable product from your chosen manufacturer. Most of them have an interchange list to make this easier.
