Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
That isn't really accurate any more. The goldwings are built here. I prefer metric. Kind of covers it all.
I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet. But along with all the other things so far, overhead cams play a good role in this as well. it really isn't one thing though. it is overall design.
And it isn't all HD fault. It is more our fault. Every time they try to do something even remotely innovative the hardcore purists crucify them for it. I remember when the announcement for the vrod came out. Some people reacted in such a way that you would have thought someone threatened the lives of their children.
Another example, the Street line. Wasn't intended for us but there was still crying. People hate the livewire and it isn't even out yet.
Gold Wings are built and imported from Japan. The last year they were produced in Marysville, OH was 2010, there is no 2011 model. The 2012 and up model is produced in Japan. Honda was disappointed in the lack of quality control that resulted in several large recalls. Currently, there are no Japanese motorcycles produced in the USA.

Way to live up to widely acknowledged stereotype of HD riders.
For us real guys, it’s not a stereotype. Back in the 70’s we stereotype guys understood the reasons we rode Harleys: they were American. The jokes were endless. “It’s not leaking oil...it’s marking its spot.” We knew there were better bikes, but they weren’t American. We drank, we rode hard and died young. We had tattoos before they were socially acceptable. We smelled, wore dirty jeans.
But that all changed toward the mid-80s. Candy-asses like yourself suddenly found it “safe” to ride a Harley, because I guarantee with that bullshit attitude of yours, you would have gotten your *** kicked and your bike stolen so a real biker could own it. Glad it’s all safe for you now.

Could not have said it any better. Back in the 60's and 70's a cagier would even make direct eye contact with you let alone run you off the road. Yes I am an old club member and still am. S I say JAP JAP JAP.

I liked it way better in those days.....You'd pull into the parking lot of a motel and the "No Vacancy" sign would immediately come on.
Now it's just a bunch of snivelin' Walter Mitty punks worrying about their "Image".
Those were good times for sure.

Dang. My apology. I am 10 years out of the loop. I hadn't realized it was moved back to Japan. Thanks for the info.
