Default 2010 FLSTC good to build?

Have seen a number of these threads regarding "good" years. Got a 2010 96B Stage 1, Big Sucker, D&D Fatcat, and Dobeck TFI Just curious if this year takes well to upgrades, what if any common failures, anyone gone from a similar setup to stage 2 or 3, and would you do it again? I realize each and every bike is different but sometimes trends are helpful. Oh yeah, winter in the NE sucks :<)) Thanks in advance for any assistance or ridicule...blaze away

All years take to upgrades although there are some years where particular attention should be paid to certain elements of the build. For instance, '05 model were prone to high oil consumption from bad valve guide seals but most builds usually involve head work; that is a non issue as the guide seals will be replaced anyway.

So, nothing preventing you from building whatever you want to build on your existing platform.

Check crank runout for a baseline to see where your motor is at. HD has a crazy amount of runout for the crank spec...general rule of thumb is. 003 for gear drive cams. I'm not an engine builder but I wouldn't do another build for myself without including the crank in my budget...some lessons I just have to learn the hard (expensive) way.

No history of the 2010 model year being problematic.
The 2004's, early 2005's, and 2007's did however.

Good idea to check runout as has been suggested but if runout is reasonable, say .003"-.005" with some miles on the motor and the OP will run chain driven cams, leave the crank alone and build on that bottom end. Unless the OP intends to drag race, do a bunch of dyno shoot outs, burnouts and wheelies, the crank will probably hold up. If not, fix it if it goes south.
