You have a DC volt /Ohm meter to check output? Could be it had deeper problems or if all was wrong was regulator, it's still not charging and voltage is low.
Does putting the maintance charger back on when running help? What does the DC voltage show on meter not running and at fast 2000 idle.
Should be 12.6 and 14 or so and below 15. Should not drop below 9.6 cranking. 14 is charging OK. 12.6 is charged. 12.2 is dead. 9.6 shows battery has good amperage and not worn out.

So I went out and bought a new battery, installed it, and fired the bike up. It ran rough for just about 5 seconds, then evened out. System is charging and holding at 14.5 volts, and everything else checks out ok. Thank you for the info.
