Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I currently have a 2002 FLHTC twin cam with a 95 inch motor, and a 5 speed transmission. I am looking to replace the motor with a newer powerplant ( Harley build 124 or 128), would a motor like this built by HD be under warranty in case something breaks? If not, what are my other options for upgrading the motor, budget is not an issue at this time, I would like to go as big as I can.
building your 95" motor out to a 124 is a great idea. plenty of power right there in the throttle. you will need a new set of flywheels, a big bore cylinder kit and you are on your way. your heads will need some attention to get to the full potential of the 124. there is plenty to discuss when doing this project so feel free to ask all the questions you like. i can help. dsv

You can buid a dependable 124" motor on the OEM cases; lot's of help here from Scott/Hillside Cycles or Kirby/VeeTwin Performance. Or S&S offers a low compression 124" motor; sort of a "lazy" 124 but will make 135/135 numbers easy. You will need headwork with the OEM version along with the other associated parts. The S&S motor will come with head but you still need throttle body, air cleaner/filter, etc.
An S&S engine comes with a warranty, check their website. When I installed my S&S engine I also uprated the clutch, replaced the primary chain and comp, as both had a decent mileage and the comp teeth were sharp. The bigger we go, the more we have to upgrade!
