Default TC88 Wish list

So, I'm putting together the "wish" list for potential upgrades my TC88 w/EFI to something with a bit more oompf.

Yes, my ride currently gets me from point A to point B but takes its sweet time getting there. It also looks/sounds damn good doing so but we all know there's always more that we'd like.

This is a 2004 Heritage Classic FLSTCI for reference.

I don't do a lot of highway riding so prefer my torque curve to be in the off the line to mid range. I'm not looking for HP/TQ numbers off the charts. I'm looking for HP/TQ numbers for how I ride. On the occasions I go for a long trip, It would still be nice to have extra power at the tap, if needed

I've seen this kit and figure it may be the best way to bring my 2004 88 to 2020 standards: https://www.sscycle.com/products/100...wrinkle-black/

My ride is a 5 speed. I'd love to go with a 6 speed but have to keep my costs in check.

Keep in mind that this is a WISH list. I'm thinking out loud and hoping to learn from those of you who have been down this road so I can avoid mistakes that others have learned from.

It's more than I want to spend but figure once it's done, I should be good for the long haul. I'll be wrenching it myself unless I hit a point that is beyond my tools/capabilities.

Looking at this kit makes me think there will be other mods required. Better clutch, perhaps an oil cooler, etc.

Be gentle. It's a WISH list.

;-)

Default TC 88 wish list

I used a 95 kit from Dunn performance on mine, consists of ported late model heads bored HD Cylinders, and Keith Black pistons and rings. The shop that did the install was impressed with the machine and port work. The kit was around $1500, his # is 303-718-7146. I used S&s 585 cams, which may be more than you’re looking for,but this will give most stage 1, 103’s a run for their money! Personally I would dump the early efi and use your favorite carb instead, I think you’ll have better luck dialing it in

Suggest you call Scott/Hillside and Kirby/VeeTwin Peformannce as both offer reasonably priced "packages" that vary in scope and price and both will be happy to discuss your project, make suggestions and help put together a build plan; they both post on this forum regularly. No disrespect to S&S but boring your seasoned OEM cylinders to 98" and fitting new pistons, a Stage I "street" port job, the right cam set and a good tune will get you where you want to go. I can't imagine entertaining changing the Delphi for a carburetor; the early MM system I could see but not the Delphi system. The Dynojet Power Vision is currently the most popular fuel management system and many tuners will sell a license to the customer so the customer does not have to purchase the Power Vision system; saves a few $$. Talk to Scott and Kirby and check out what they have to offer.

No need to spend money on cam chest upgrade; the early OEM plate and pump are quite adequate and will keep the cost down. Just need new outer cam bearings, upgrade inner cam bearings to Koyo B148s and replace the OEM tensioners with the CYCO tensioners. Good luck with the project and keep us posted.

I'm an old school guy from the carb days, Have to agree to keep the Delphi. That EFI just works well.

a mild 98" build is perfect for what your looking for,my personal 2005 ultra is 98",10.0-1,S&S 583 cams.great tq down low.if your pump/plate is in good shape,no reason to replace,i would only do new inner/outer bearings (S&S cams include bearings) & lifters

An age old stone reliable Touring combo, that folks love is this;

HMM Stage I or Stage II Heads
HMM #0980 98" Big Bore Kit
Andrews 26 or 37 cams
S&S pushrods/lifters
Port match intake
Big broad torque.
