Default Cylinder exchange vs new

Was considering the S&S 110" kit for my 103 that comes with new cylinders, now I am looking at the Fuel Moto 107" kit that offers a core exchange or for an extra $299 you get brand new "extreme duty cylinders"

If I go with the FM kit, what is a better option between the core exchange / purchasing the extreme duty cylinders?

Certainly nothing wrong with used cylinders that have been through many heat cycles.

So are you saying it is best to send in your current cylinders for boring?

Don''t know that one is better than the other but having "seasoned" cylinders bored has been the common practice forever. The problem with "kits" is that sometimes piston to cylinder clearance is out of spec and/or the cylinder bore is not true. Doesn't happen often but it can happen. Measuring new pistons and boring/honing cylinders to fit insures proper fitment every time. A well planned 107" motor can see 115/120 numbers when all the components play well together.

exchange is same as sending in yours
their used units are also “seasoned” as djl calls them

I would go with the110 stuff first. Reason is the new cylinders are designed for this size bore with a cylinder liner made for it. The 107 kits came out just to be bigger than the 106 kits but each time the cylinders keep getting thinner and thinner and "extreme duty cylinders" is just a marketing name as the cylinder were design for a 103 bore to start with. These cylinders were never designed to be that thin and there have have been plenty of them that did not last a long life. So depends on what your looking for but IMHO if you should get things that were design from the start to be that size.

Thanks Steve, I am up in the air. I do not need easy-start cams because my stock motor has ACR's (the S&S 110" kit comes with easy-start 585s). The S&S kit seems to be extremely complete and turn-key, gaskets, bearings, etc. On the other hand, I was thinking I somehow need to get Fuel Moto involved because I am running a Thundermax and will need a good base-map to start with.

used cylinders are better for a 107 build as they are seasoned

I'm sure you can get the kit without easy-start cams. I also believe you can buy just the cylinders and pistons as a kit then build the other parts you may want to use. Thundermax will provide base maps for various builds as well so check with them too. Plenty of people out there if the Thundermax is your choice.

If I go with that S&S 110" kit, what kind of performance should I expect from that 585 cam? I am usually cruising between 2750 - 3150 rpms. I would say I am somewhat of an aggressive rider.
