super +1
had a pan send me to the moon. even later mechanical adv systems will kick back when they stick.
two tips: do not put a bicycle pedal on one nor wear hush puppies, ask me how i know, carried the scar for years.
Why not spend the $ and have your heads machined for ACRs, add the pieces and harness & activate the function in the ECM?
Then you can run any cam/compression combo now, and in the future.
Switching to .030 head gaskets and skimming the cylinders for a 0 deck moves you to ~10:1, IMO perfect for a bunch of cams.
Have a tuning plan?
Take off heads with compression releases are readily available ( and can probably be gotten for what the parts and machining would cost to do your own ) and then have the heads freshened up ... You'll need to either buy a harness from HD to complete the installation or wire up the HD releases through the start switch ( relatively simple task ) ... Kirby has talked ( many times ) about the S&S Easy Starts make great power too ... Decisions, decisions, decisions :>)

I'm fairly certain you meant S&S cams in general making good power but thought I'd check cuz they don't make any more power than the regular, non easy start S&S cams which are $80 - $100 cheaper for those that have ACRs or MCRs.
I have ACRs but personally I almost wish I had MCRs. They can't fail like ACRs. Tho ACR failures are probably fairly uncommon, it can happen.
I have always used manuals; just a personal choice. Some say they will forget to use them but, QUOTE]
For us (me) dinosaurs still running a carb it’s just part of turning the petcock on. 😃lol
Anybody who ever spent time on a kick start bike becomes accustomed to a ritual/recipe
Roll mag back
Pull choke out
Turn petcock On
Push engine over until compression
Two twist of the throttle
Kick like Hell and hope for no slip in kick starter

No start, go have a beer and then try again
Damn I miss those days!
funny thing is many here are scratching their head about "Roll Mag Back"

machining heads for ACR`s would not be worth it at all,IMO,ACR heads are pretty much a dime a dozen now, youde be better off just buying a paid & selling your non ACR heads.a lot more machining goes into installing ACR`s than MCR`s
I have a power vision tuner for the tune part of it. Im leaning towards the manual releases at this point, I like to tinker on stuff and may decide to change cams one day. The head gasket it dont know I would like to do the .030 but on a that would put my ccp over 200. I have the bike apart for paint to so Im in no hurry to slap it back together just gathering information as I go
