Default Pushrod question

My mechanic is finally able to get to my bike to do the 22XE cams and he noticed I bought the adjustable pushrods. he prefers to do the push rods the normal way and re-use the stock ones. or he can use the adjustable ones is there a down side to going one way or the other?

he's seen a lot of the adjustable ones have issues with coming un-adjusted along with other problems. or is this something of the earlier versions being fixed?

Surely it will save you some pennies not having to have the seat, tank and rocker boxes removed? A dab of blue loctite under the pushrod locking nuts would take care of any worries like loosening off.

You can't go wrong using the stock solid pushrods tho. Providing the base circle of the cams are the same.

I know it's convenient and can save some money to use the quickie type adjustable pushrods. But if you consider the added stress on the rocker arms down to the cam due to having one rocker arm open two valves at the same time, I believe the non-adjustable pushrod would be the better option. However, considering the much faster ramps on the wm8-22xe, I'd also consider a beefier non-adjustable pushrod like the Fueling thick wall variety.

That said, lots of people are running the quickie adjustable pushrods and are not having problems. But if you go that route, be sure to purchase a good branded set, not some unbranded set off of an auction site.

The FM push rods are good quality, likely as good as you can get.

The idea that OEM pushrods are any better than properly installed adjustable pushrods is hogwash. They do not somehow magically loosen themselves if the locknuts are torqued and Locitite is used. Adjustables have the advantage of ease of repair if you decide to change the cam again or the cam bearings, etc. Adjustables are the only way to go.

talked with FM first thing this morning already and they said I can not use the stock ones (due to dimensions of the cam), so mechanic is going forward with the adjustable installs. thanks for everyones time!

I have had adjustable pushrods loosen on me twice, they were properly torqued. The fact that they came loose was certainly not magic...

If you are running engines on a test stand and are changing cams out constantly it makes sense to use adjustables, but in a street bike very few people are swapping cams out often enough to see any real world advantage.

Adjustables are certainly not the only way to go, unless the cam is a different base diameter of course.
