The disadvantage to smaller base circles is that they change the angle of the cam lobe on the lifter roller, which can limit valve opening rates.
I forgot to mention the plusses to adjustable pushrods. While the solids are lighter,stronger, cheaper, and definitely more reliable...adjustables are easy, easy, and almost forgot to mention easy. They only true thing they have going for them really.

please explain this, i'm having a hard time trying to understand how a smaller base circle can change the an angle on a lifter roller. ramp design yes, but how can a smaller base circle make this change?

Apparently he's not doing it right if they're getting loose.
every diesel engine running today in semis has adjustable rockers in the valvetrain and usually the adjustment intervals are anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 miles and the only time we have an issue is when somebody doesn't tighten them down right.
Blue Locktite would be the way to go with it
