Is that the bearing cage for the pinion shaft bearing.. did that come out of the cam chest? Also what is the shrader valve at the inlet to the CV carb.. never seen that before.... Was the PO running nitrous or something.?
I think you're going to need to pull the rocker boxes pull the pushrods and then let's pull that camshaft out so I can get it look into the pinion bearing..
More history of the bike would be helpful...

You have a bottom breather engine case with a '93 up flywheel and top breather heads, top breather cam cover and stock CV carburetor. I have no idea why there's a schrader valve on the adapter plate.

Oil looks OK, but you have broken the rotor of whatever aftermarket ignition it has. DO NOT turn the engine with the pinion nut! (unless the plugs are out and either the valve rockers or push rods are removed)

Remove the air cleaner and see if there is a missing screw or screw head. There should be 3 holding the backing plate to the carburetor.

if it makes a difference, the front cylinder was pouring oil when i removed the top cover, the rear cylinder is dry

You got to slow down man. It looks like you pried that cam cover off and did some damage. Let's not do anymore as you take off the heads. If that missing lower right bolt got sucked into the carb, it would be in one of the heads. That's not good news, but it's better than bottom end problem.

Pop a push rod cover off to see if you have adjustable PRs. This will make taking your lower rocker box off easier.

If no adjustable PRs, then you have to turn the motor over by hand and get each cylinder to (top dead center) TDC before you start unbolting the bottom rocker box. There are several ways to find this. It's easier for the front cylinder. Open the timing inspection hole (left side of case where the cylinder meets to make a V). Turn the motor over until you see a vertical line in the inspection hole. Once there, it's TDC on front cylinder. On the rear cylinder, you can put a straw in the sparkplug hole and watch it rise to TDC. If my instructions are unclear, there are about 50 videos on Youtube on how to do this.

When your heads are off, hope that you find the bolt stuck in your head chamber.

hey man, thanks for the advice. i definitely need to take a step back every now and then, i really dont want to do any extra damage! im just leaving town now for work for a few days, but plan to pull the jugs off when i return! hoping the damage to the cylinder is minimal, but thats not usually how it goes for me!

Important: put the cam cover back on when you proceed to taking your top end off. The pinion and cam shaft need to be supported. You can leave a small gap if you want to pry (with plastic) the cam cover off later. You can also leverage the cam through lifter block holes to push the cam cover off. Just try not to nick the surfaces of the cam cover.

Whatever the issue is, you will save $$ and get lots of satisfaction from fixing it yourself. Get yourself a factory service manual, because they are invaluable. Clymer's manual (cheaper) is a good and useable alternative, and they have more pictures. Also, post your question in the Evo Classic section, because you'll get more eyes on it. Many of the folks that have posted to this thread hang out there. They have lots of experience. Good luck.
