TC88 Winter build.
I did some work to my 2004 FXDI over the winter. First time ever with a Harley. Got a set of 95” cylinders and pistons from a friend. Also a set of newer take off 103” heads. Changed to 510G gear driven cams (runout was good at 2.5 thousands). All parts were used but good shape. New lifters and new pushrods (adjustable).
Engine runs great. Got a PV and with a few tweaks from fuel moto she rips. Sounds good too. I’ve had a stethoscope on it a few times and all sounds good to my amateur ear. Plugs have been checked regularly in the 1000 kms or so since the rebuild and only concern is the ring has a bit of an black oily look to it. Not too wet but not carbony like it’s supposed to be.
Anyway I did the 500 mile oil change just recently and there was some metallic ‘threads’ in the oil. The magnet on the drain plug had normal looking wear slug. The metallic threads do not appear to be magnetic. I was concerned so put another 200 miles on it and changed it again and they are still showing up.
Don’t know if I should tear it apart and see what’s going on or if this is somewhat ‘normal’ and let her run for a bit more. I really just don’t want anything catastrophic to crater my engine.
