All summer I've been having this vibration in my 02 deuce fxstdi-efi. Iv posted about it so many times I may get stripped of my membership for reciprocating question but I'm going ask my question in a different manner. It's just this simple do the twin cam 88 b series, gear drive cams, vibrate as a norm, like in the middle of the bike, the pegs, the air filter cover, the tank and a little bit in the seat. It's about to start worrying me, cause I'm thinking it's not normal for it to have that buzzing feel like that. It's not a bad, like shaking the mirrors bad or anything but it's still a vibration. Now I've had bikes long enough to know that Harley's vibrate but this one is a vibration I've never experienced before but this is the first ridged mounted motor I've had. Any and all you guys help is appreciated, TIA
Sounds like the crank sproket the drives the balancer system has shifted from it's index point on the crank. Having said that, there are other conditions that can cause such a vibration in a sofftail. Anything that touches the frame can cause a vibration like the OP describes. A couple of years ago, my brother's softail developed an unpleasant vibration; his hands would go numb after an hour of riding. We had some difficulty finding the source but finally located a small rock the had managed to wedge itself between the motor case and frame. Don't ask me how; don't know. Just saying, check for possible contact between motor case, exhaust, etc. and frame as well as loose/broken motor mount or other loose connections to frame. If all that checks out, balancer sprocket could be the source. The fix is split the cases, re-index the sprocket and tack weld.

Yep that's what I didn't really want to hear lol, I was also wondering if it could be running lean cause it hasn't been tuned since I've had it in April this year. But the po said he inherited it in 2012, and says he has only put maybe 2000 miles on it. He is a very hard guy to get any info out of, so I had to find out everything I know about the thing by trial and error. But I think I'll try to do a Dyno and see if they can maybe tune some of it out before i go deep in my wallet, ha! But hey thanks a lot for the input bro! Beer!
If the coil mount or tank mounting tabs break, you have a 10000000% confirmation the balancer sprocket has spun. Softails don't have the vibrations you are describing normally.

Thanks for the information djl I'm hoping it isn't the latter of your suggestions, but anything is a possibility. I've been realizing that for about 63 years lol!
