Gents,
I read somewhere that putting a roll of nickels in each side of the handlebars reduces vibration significantly. Is this an old wives tale or what? I can use all the help I can get.
well I looked at some of your posts and it looks like you have a heritage...unless it's a pre balanced motor bike, vibration shouldn't be much of an issue unless somethings wrong. Your gonna get a little at speed since your motor is hard mounted but my 05 softail standard was very smooth for a Harley and my road king is alsowhen youget aboveidle
Laffing at myself. When I'm riding the pan at nite, look in the mirror. There's lights back there. NOW, I can't tell if it is an 18 wheeler or another sickle, "ALL" I know is there is "something" coming up behind me.
As stated, all the nickels do is reduce the "effects" of the vibration. Same as rubber mounting the motor (have always HATED that term, motors run on electricity, ENGINES run by internal combustion.), Flanders risers, BIG foam grips, any number of ideas over the decades. You can spend a good chunk of change balancing the engine out. Helps a lot, but vibration is going to be an inherent part of the design of an HD V twin. By trial and error, have been able to reduce it tremendously, by finding the "sweet" spot in the RPM, then go to work gearing the primary, trannyand final drive to the speed I want at said RPM. But again, you'll never "eliminate" it.

Adding weight to the handlebars at or near the grips changes the "resonant frequency" of the bars. You may minimize vibs at certain rpm, but it may amplify vibs at idle for instance. If you experiment with various weights you might find the best compromise. Play with it, you may improve things at cruise speed for instance. Good Luck.
I used to be a "shake and vib" research tech and have done a lot of this sort of thing.
