Laffing at myself. When I'm riding the pan at nite, look in the mirror. There's lights back there. NOW, I can't tell if it is an 18 wheeler or another sickle, "ALL" I know is there is "something" coming up behind me.
As stated, all the nickels do is reduce the "effects" of the vibration. Same as rubber mounting the motor (have always HATED that term, motors run on electricity, ENGINES run by internal combustion.), Flanders risers, BIG foam grips, any number of ideas over the decades. You can spend a good chunk of change balancing the engine out. Helps a lot, but vibration is going to be an inherent part of the design of an HD V twin. By trial and error, have been able to reduce it tremendously, by finding the "sweet" spot in the RPM, then go to work gearing the primary, trannyand final drive to the speed I want at said RPM. But again, you'll never "eliminate" it.
Weve had this conversation on these forums before

So, as you can see, a motor can run on electricity or gasoline.

You get the point.
Point made, and duly noted, IBW. I was going back to my days in the Nuc Navy, and using what we were taught in NucPwrScol. THANK YOU for taking the time, I appreciate that, and indeedy, it is "noted" and "logged in"Thanx, again.
TO ALL, I stand "corrected". [sm=imsorry.gif]. GUMBY
Now, can we get back to the name calling and inuendo?
There's vibration and then there's VIBRATION. My rubber mount Sporty is very smooth at highway speeds and has less tiring vibration than many bikes withbalanced engines. The belt drive on Harleys also reduces grating and harsh vibration. If you have add on mirrors, especially those with long stems, try the short stem stock mirrors. You will see better with the stock mirrors and they will kill some vibration. Addiing weight to the bars will also help many bikes.
Many eons ago i gave agirl a ride on my bike after the ride someone asked her about the bikes vibration she said and i quote Harleys dont vibrate they pulsate... It was love at first site (at least for a week or two) God bless the old days!!!!!
Da Gump: Im with you...I always was taught thata motor was not the same as an engine. SInce you went to nuc school...heres something you can probably relate to.
An engine is something that produces and output...(i.e. the search "engine" here was broke a few days ago.)
When you are talking about kinetic energy output, and engine uses fuel source (Gasoline or steam). But, a motor operates off of a secondary power source (the power generated, by the engine.)
Another example is with rocket. THe big ones that we shot to the moon mixed fuel internally and have engines, but the smaller solid fuel rockets are said to have a "motor"
