Default S&S 124 vs build

I have a built motor in a 2016 dyna fxdls which was recently blown and will need to be either rebuilt or a crate motor put in. Some of the parts are salvageable but a good majority aren’t.

I could reuse the heads with some new valves and probably the crank case. Most everything else would need to be replaced including but not limited to the crank, pistons, cylinders, oil pump, cam plate, and cams.

with that being said I’m not sure if I should put an s&s 124 crate motor in or piece the motor back together. I was previously close to 130/130 on my current build and would like to be near or above there.

I’ve heard conflicting ideas on the reliability of an s&s 124 vs working with someone to do a custom build. With this in mind I ride my bike pretty aggressively and had already destroyed the stock crank and transmission before building my current build. I put a good 10k miles a year on the bike with a variety of city driving in a hot climate and country rides with sport bike riders.

Will the s&s 124 handle the abuse or should I look elsewhere?

we build a lot of 124" here, building your motor has alot of plus`s,as you can build it to your exact riding style, keeping your VIN,ect.but in some cases a crate motor is easier & cheaper.

I recently installed a S&S t124. And I had similar questions prior to pulling the trigger. I had a tc 107 making 125hp 130tq prior. And also live in a very hot part of socal. I manly use my bike to commute but also like to take long distance trips. I average 20k miles a year. My prior build lasted 50k before the crank went south

Did you do anything to the motor before putting it in or are you just running the crate motor as it comes from the factory?

I appreciate the call earlier. I tried messaging you on here but was saying it was restricted so I messaged the Vee Twin Racing facebook page.
