Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
We have two weight checks from different and reliable sources; 530g and 532g so moving on, time to check crank runout. Doubtful the tune is the source of the vibration.
I get off at 4:00 and plan to pull the cam chest apart as soon as I get home. I hope I find something. I weighed the piston with a Harbor Freight scale, I hope it's accurate...
The timing is not off a tooth. I take pictures of stuff like that when building an engine and the picture shows right on the money. This isn't my first rodeo on stuff like this.
I apologize if I offended you.
That was not my intention
Hope you find the source of this problem
Well... Thats not it either!🤔 Video is a little jumpy as I was holding phone in one hand and Rachet in the other. I checked it about 500 times (lol) its the same every time...
Highly unlikely to cause an issue like this but I'll throw them out there anyway as things to check while you're in the cam chest. Oil pump realigned? Especially with crank run out at .0015 I really doubt it would cause an issue but...
I also think a lot of people overlook sprocket alignment or have the spacer kit to correct it if they did. Not saying that's the case here but honestly I'm running out of ideas so I'm throwing it out there too.
I want to thank everyone for their help but for now its going back together. I dont think it will do any good but I might go ahead and get it dyno tuned. I dont think it will fix it but its worth a try. I'm having trouble finding a 3.937 Cometic head gasket .040 thick....

Ill check but I don't think I have a 3.937. I MIGHT know where I can get one for you. But if yours is an MLS, you can re-use them. I've used the same ones several times in the past. As long as the coating is intact.

I had thought about reusing it. It still looks good. Back in the day we sometimes would re use the steel shim head gaskets on our race engine. On those we would respray them with aluminum paint and torque them back down. I think a lot of the LS guys also reuse MLS head gaskets.

I didn't check it this time but I did check it before I did the top end. It's a little harder to check off the splines but that time I came up with about .0025.
