Machining cylinder base.

Machining cylinder base.
So when machining cylinders to correct deck height it like looks like most machine shops clamp off the bore. Is there any danger of damaging a fresh bore job by doing this?

Couple of points.
I'd be real careful if grabbing the bottom. I'll use soft jaws if the spigot is thick enough.. The rest of the times, I set the cylinder on a Tq plate and use the mill.
If grabbing at the top (better), make sure that the cylinder is centered along the axis. Run the indicator down the bore with the cylinder clocked in different positions. You may find that the bottoms aren't flat.
