Hey,
Has anyone had any experience glass bead blasting cylinder jugs? I’m thinking about taping off the piston chambers and just blasting the rest, the outside fins and the top end valve area and where the heads bolt to.
I’m thinking as long as I stay away from the cylinder bore part i should be good!
Ok we use this first it works well and saves time on beading if your beading it your self - then or first we tape off the top and bottom of the piston cylinder and grease the top and bottom only about 2 inches is needed if you do 3 thats fine
Its hard to find a good stripper these days because of government restrictions. I'll have to try John's recommendation.
After stripping, wash them in hot soapy water and dry them thoroughly.
Tape them really well, as those beads have a way of getting everywhere.
After blasting, wash them, maybe twice, to get all the beads out.
I did a light hone with a 'flex hone' to make the new rings seat well.
Then you have to wash again!
Better check them to see if they should be bored to the next size.
Oversize pistons and rings are available.
