I just stripped my #1 bolt today while reinstalling my Cam plate. I cleaned the holes out and still stripped #1 bolt out going to 110 inch pounds. I'm trying to decide how to proceed. Helicoil or stud fix. Will I need to do a thread repair for the stud and nut fix? I should have bought an Evo. 😐🤣

Shoulda torqued it to 90 in lb. First TC cam job I did pulled threads trying to tq to 110. I got away with a 1 1/8 in that hole torquing to 90. Later it got a helicoil. You can try a bottom tap and longer bolt or stud.

Last motor I did I drilled the dowel holes deeper, bottom tapped and used 1 1/4 inch bolts in those holes..

I'm assuming that I need the Helicoil 1/4-20 kit for the cam plate bolt #1?

Yep and you'll need to pull the dowel. IIRC, I use a 5/16-18 tap on the dowell and pop it out with a slide hammer. You can get away by shoving something tight into the dowel and grab the outside with vice grips.. Dowel will be toast tho..

HMMM, I'm getting ready to do a Cam on my 2023 Street Glide ST. Is this a concern on the M8's as well? My instructions call for the cam plate bolts to torqued to 120 Inch Pounds. Should only torque to 100 Inch Pounds?

Thank you for the help! This is incredibly frustrating but I feel like I can get it repaired and finished now.

I don't know for sure. Haven't messed around with the M8 cam case. I'd probably do 100 tho.. The original issue with TCs was that they didn't have enough threads on the dowel pin holes.. They may have corrected it on the M8s.

I have done a few, now, and it hasn't been an issue so far. I have not read of any issues other than one guy here who cross-threaded a bolt.

Just take your time, like with anything else

Would you say that the stud in the dowel was a better route than the helicoil? I'm undecided as to which way to go with it.

Some people like em. I prefer all the fasteners to be the same head.
