Consider opening the timing chest and inspecting your cam chain and tensioners. Not a lot of work, and maybe a more likely problem area than valve springs.

Does the motor sound OK after it starts. No bad rattles. If not is making funny noises, try to determine where the noise is coming from and don't run it any more.. You could have a lifter that lost a roller, inner cam bearing that went bad.

If quiet and the motor starts right up, seems to run OK, but after a 1 second runs rough, try holding up hard on the fuel connector on the bottom of the tank.

yes it making what sounds like top end or pushrods rattling. hopefully, after opening the cam chest I'll see something. I would hate to put it back together without finding where the noise is coming from. I may go ahead and start it and try to pin point the noise.

thanks
edit. I noticed when turning the rear wheel in 6th gear it was extremely hard. thats why I checked the primary. guess I better go in the chest to have a look see before starting it again.

I'd think that the process should start with plugs out, rear wheel up. Make sure plugs look OK, Nothing beating them up.

Find TDC each cylinder and check for loose pushrods.

Remove cam cover and drag magnet though the bottom of cam case.
