I thought there was two pry points (front and back) you can stick a large flat screw driver in... and wiggle it open. That jims tool is so over priced, it's not even funny. Wish George made something like that, but they don't.
I sent the whole crankcase off to Darkhorse Crankworks. They balanced, welded, h-beam rods, and timken bearing. The works. It cost a pretty penny. The top end was fine but I had the heads ported over at Fuel Moto. It's holding up good now I have 7,000 miles on the new crank. It stays wound up in the higher rpms most of the day. It sounds like you're on the right track. It sucks having the bike down but in the end it's worth it to have peace of mind.
Thinking of doing the same. Can you go through the process? How did you ship it, and what was the cost (ball park is fine). What was the final all in price? How long did it take to get the case back. What pistons are you running? Etc. It would be a big help, thanks.

I called them. They are very nice, helpful. They sent me a box with shaped foam for my crankcase, twin cam b. It was $45 for that I think. They asked me to get all the oil out of it, as best I could. It cost $180 to ship it. They balanced, blueprint, welded, timken bearing. I had Carrillo 10.25 pistons from my Fuel Moto big bore kit. The one that killed the crank. They rebuilt the entire crankcase, everything. I got Darkhorse H-beam rods. They charged me about $2300. Plus shipping both ways $360. I would say when all was said and done I had spent $2800 on the crankcase. I know it sounds like a a lot but I didn't want it coming apart on me again. It was worth it. It took about 6 weeks.

Thank you very much for the info. I'm still finishing my truck restoration, but I'm in the home stretch with that. That's actually not a bad price, and something I can do.. And like you said, it'll never come apart again. I take my bike on big runs for vacation, usually 1600 miles or more. She gave me the beans going to Wisconsin couple years ago, so I've let it sit until I had the time. Again thanks allot!
My 04 TCb has never had a problem. Only has a little over 50,000 test miles however. It still runs like new.
Only broken mechanical part was the spline in the alternator rotor. Wasn't from the compensator nut (bolt) coming loose either. It was still Loctite set.
Want the strongest foundation for your Twin CamŽ engine? Let us supply you with a new S&SŽ crankshaft assembly. Completely redesigned for 2014, these crankshafts are manufactured from heat-treated 4140 steel material that is 114% stronger than the stock flywheel material. To minimize the possibility of wheel shifting and fl ex, the new 1-piece integral flywheel/shaft halves are now assembled with a larger diameter 1.671 crank pin for a 5% gain in cross-sectional area that results in increased clamping force. Lighter weight connecting rod forgings allow higher rpm capabilities and have 20 rod rollers (vs. 18 stock) for increased strength and durability. These new features keep these wheels running true and eliminate the need for additional labor and welding to prevent the dreaded flywheel shifting!
