djl, no apologies needed. I'm new to wrenching on bikes. Long time rider though. Only bikes I have had with compression releases were the 103's with acr's. One reason I'm reluctant to do them is cost and time. I don't know of any places local to me that would be able to bore my cylinders, Charleston, WV. I was looking at Fuel Moto for the 107" top end kit or Zippers for the 103" kit. I've got emails to both but haven't heard back from them. Fuel Moto is $1,000.00 for 107" kit at 10.25:1. Zippers is $1,040.00 for the 103" top end kit at 10.1. That's without adding compression releases.

One more suggestion; I am trying to help.

Since you are looking at options like Fuel Moto and Zippers, give Scott Palmer at Hillside Cycles a call. It has been a while since I corresponded with Scott but he used to offer the service of boring customers cylinders, fitting Wiseco pistons, rings gapped for about $600; in/out shipping on the customer. He also would work on his cylinder cores, charge the customer a core charge which would be refunded when he received the customers cylinders in serviceable condition to eliminate down time. I don't know if that deal is still available but I think worth a call. Drilling heads for manual compression releases in my area runs about $50 and compression releases run about $60-$75/pair. I don't know if you plan to clean up the heads while off for a valve job and/or new guide seals but you could send them to Scott for that as well if you can't find a machine ship in your area to do that. I would think a local automotive machine shop could handle that?

Another option might be BigBoyz. I know Bean offers cylinder boring but not sure about supply of pistons, fitting pistons and gapping rings. You might give Bean a call, he can be hard to get on the phone but likes talking to customers; you might be able to work something out with him. Another option might be VeeTwin Performance in Florida. Kirby Apathy does a lot of work for racers but does regular machine work and head porting for guys like us; might be able to work out something with him as well similar to what Hillside offers. Not disrespecting either FM or Zippers, both are quality operations, but the afore mentioned options are likely to be more cost effective.

call Scott at hillside. have him bore your cylinders and get your heads street ported. you can still run the 222 cams with the 107. it will be a nice low to mid range combo. of course you can change cams for more hp and tq but not necessary if you do not want to change cams.

I've decided to put it back together and ride it this season and make a decision on the top end after I ride it a bit. My cam spacers should be here tomorrow. Might be next week before I get it buttoned up, but I will report back on how it runs. Being semi retired, I work 4 days every other week and that starts tomorrow.

The base circle of the Woods 222 cams is smaller that stock and, from what I have read, you will need adjustanble pushrods or +30 Perfect fit. JMHO but the +30 Perfect Fit over adjustables is a no brainer. You can back check me on this by giving FM a call. IIRC, when they sell those cams the tell the customer that OEM pushrods are too short and should be replaced with adjustable or +30 Perfect fit. You will also need FM to update the tune you are currently running.

djl, thank you.
I did get the adjustable rods with the cams and new lifters as well. I do have a tune for the new cams as well. I do appreciate the heads up on the needs though.

DHL, thank you. I think I would have preferred the +30 rods had I known. But, I already have the adjustables.

FYI, you can buy any length pushrod you want from Smith brothers for about half of what HD wants for them. They make and ship them within a week or less.
