Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
What do you really think you are getting? Are you really noticing an inch or too? I didn't go with S&S or Fuel moto because I didn't want the compression ratio they are pushing. Many disagree with me on compression. But I prefer fairly low. No gas issues, if you never leave city not an issue. It stress everything.. My last build is on a bike with 70k, I didn't feel like stressing everything else in the bike by squeezing out as much power. I didn't trust my year bottom end, and I was right, it failed.
Early 88s we were boring to 95, and happy with. Maybe we are bunch of old grampas. this winter $250 to bore a set of jugs.

don't go too much power cause you may have to start upgrading other parts of the bike that would increase cost. Bored 95 is much cheaper and with the right cam and compression and tune, you would have plenty fun!, I just liked the convenience of the FM kit. What tuner do you have?

This was my feeling. Some guys want the power, and don't mind chasing parts. I get it, its fun. I am just to cheap. I think it would be cool to do a project that was made to handle the power. S&S cases, beefed up tranny, ect
I did a andrews 37 cam, because that was in the in cam 20 years ago, everyone was doing it. I might consider one of the 20 somethings from andrews. I did .030 head gasket on ,y 95 and 98. James makes .035 and cometic does make a .040, which I used on 103"
Again many people disagree with me on compression. But friend of mine, who is indie, said I may have lost money over the years, but these are regular people around here that riding the bike to work.
