S&S Quickie adjustable pushrods installation question. Have watched and read everything I can about the install. Have to replace OEM rods because the rear exhaust pushrod got bent. So rather than have to take top of motor apart I choose to go with S&S Pushrods. My issue is, what position should the cam be in? I keep hearing TDC of piston but not very clear to me. I don't believe that the pushrod should be on the cam but should be off the cam?? Can someone define to me what is right and what is wrong!
do you have a manual. don't sound like you are well versed on what you are doing. how did the stock pushrod get bent. if you are not careful during the install you may have a couple of more bent.
edit: not a hard job but this question concerned me.

Or worse. You really need to understand how a motor works and what TDC means before digging in, maybe you do, and your question is poorly written? You're going to need to understand TDC and how to find it before you even get to installing your new push rods because if you want to take out the stock rods without removing the heads you'll have to cut them, and you really don't want to cut them when they're under a bunch of pressure. There a probably dozens of videos online that deal with the quickee pushrods and discuss how to find TDC with the cam chest cover off or on. As suggested, if you don't already have an official shop manual, get one and study it. Good luck.
Adjust the pushrods one cylinder at a time. Raise the rear wheel, remove the spark plugs. Put the transmission in 5th gear for 5 speeds, 6th gear for 6 speeds. Rotate the rear wheel with your hand to turn the engine over to find the right position to: Adjust the intake valve pushrod when the exhaust valve is beginning to open. Adjust the exhaust valve pushrod when as intake valve is just closing. By watching the pushrods you can tell which valve is opening and closing, and you don't have to worry about being on TDC on a compression stroke.
Do one pushrod at a time and give it 15 minutes or so for the lifter to bleed down (the pushrod should be able to spin with your fingers) before you turn the engine over to adjust the next pushrod. Failure to follow this important step will result in bent pushrods, valves, and damage to the piston crown. If you don't understand how to do this, have someone do it that does.
More important, there is a reason the original pushrod got bent. Most likely a valve stuck and pushrod bent. Just changing pushrods is a recipe for future failure.
Bike fell off my lift, and still don't know why! the jack caught the rear intake pushrod and bent it! I have replaced pushrods in Harleys before but always OEM solid rods made for motor. first time installing adjustable ones. This is my 10th Harley BTW.

Thats a new one!!! Disregard my comments then and listen to the others. Not too difficult.
