Default 98 Road King EFI - Engine Build

I just got my first Harley and this is going to be my forever bike. I'm 25yo and I've been riding for awhile but the most engine work I've done is replace a couple starters and adjust the valves on an old V-star, if that even counts.

My 98 RK is EFI. I just got it and it has a blown head gasket. No biggie, I'm using it as an excuse to tear into it. I want to go all out (within reason), but I don't want to put a whole new engine in it either, i like the chrome. I plan on engraving and gold plating most of the bike to help promote my gold plating company.

My question is, how do i blueprint my build with such little references on the 82 cu in Evo? The 80" and 99-06 twin cams are all I can find for kits.

My goal is to be able to pop the front end up.

Any help blueprinting this build would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Just a couple of thoughts.

If you haven't done so already, drop in the Welcome Area and provide a breif introduction; the first paragraph of this post will do. Read the forum guidelines while there. Then head over to the Evo section of the forum for the information you are looking for.

I am not an Evo guy but can tell you that the first thing to do, if it has not been done already, is to install hi-flow intake and exhaust systems which will require a dyno tune. Unfortunately, you are stuck with the early MM EFI system which is lacking and there are not many tuners that work wiht that system now. The MoCo replaced the MM system with Delphi in 2001 IIRC, much more user friendly. JMHO but you might consider converting to a carburetor; there a lots of DIY videos and instructions available and while I have never made the conversion, I don't think it too challenging. The next steps would be more displacement and a cam; that's where the Evo section of the forum will provide the guidance you will need for the project. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

89" builds were very popular and common for the evo engines. Look into those, many sources for info, parts and what's needed.
