Default Lifter noise.

My FXE from 1978 have started to make lifter noise after half an hour of driving.
Wonder what to check first. Thans Goran

Uhhhhhh, probably the lilfters? How about a bit more information on the bike, like mileage, modifications, etc.?

78 FXE came with hydraulic lifters. Previous owner may have replaced them with solid lifter which was common. Pull a pushrod tube keeper off and lift the tube. IF it's got solids, there's an adjuster on top of the lifter. No adjuster???? Time for new lifters.

The last ring on the spring was holding it together.

If you do need to replace the hydraulic inserts, I would look for Eastern Motorcycle lifters. Their part number is the same as the OEM number, 17920-53A.
