I got a 98 evo with oil pressure problems 28xxx miles I'll give you some background first. It started like most. I installed a ev27 cam and a aftermarket breather gear. When I Was putting it togather I had some questions on where to install the T on the gear. I chose to align it like factory using the T as a dot. I put togather and go for a ride. Saw the oil pressure light flash on and off at a red light. Rode on home and now 2 years later oil light comes on after it runs for a xouple minutes for about 15 minutes it will go out when u give it a little gas but longer you ride the more it comes on and stays on. Once it starts staying on I shut it off and restart it about 10 seconds later and light will go out.. So I spoke to a couple ppl it everyone felt it needed an oil pump. So I bought a new one installed it with no change at all. So today ii remembered this oil gear deal so I got this Ai mechanic app and I told it much like I have here. Now I have discovered I was installing that gear wrong... So I figured out the T should have been installed at the 12 o'clock position and now I've done so but I'm still having the same problem. So my question is what have I damaged also I just noticed this. My pinion shaft bushing is worn out badly.. It's got a bunch of slop in it. Is that where my oil pressure is going? Some one lead me in the right direction? Help me I don't know where to look. Is the pinion bushing my problem. I know why it wore out. It had a rough spot that has sense been taken care of... It was a nick that was gryu<7inding away at the bushing.. I know it needs one so I'll do that now and let u know how that goes for me. I'll be back..
1. Is your oil sending unit working correctly?
2. Put a good oil pressure gauge on and see what the oil pressure really is.
3. If the gauge shows good oil pressure, your sending unit may be bad and causing the light to come on.
If the pinion shaft bushing is worn out, the flywheels may have excessive runout. Make sure you check the runout, because you don't have enough miles on your rig to have worn out the pinion bushing.

I bet he is talking about the bushing in the cam cover.

That is what I'm talking about, too. Those bushings only wear out if there's too much runout on the pinion shaft because the flywheels shifted on the crank pin.
I'm definitely a Harley newbie, but I think (especially if your idle speed is a little low) that a low oil pressure light at idle with a warm/hot engine might be fairly normal. I think our EVO idle speed is supposed to be close to 1,000 RPM.

You are not troubleshooting, you are listening to people who don`t have a clue.

AI mechanic app....Good grief.
How do you know the oil pressure is low, have you connected a direct reading gauge to it?
The Harley Davidson service manual will call out exactly how to troubleshoot this issue.
People think service manuals are too expensive, and this is what happens.

As Dan said, you need to listen to people that actually know what they are taking about and defintiely NOT anything AI.
plug a manual guage in it and make sure you actualyy have an oil pressure issue, not electrical.
if you find that you do have a pressure problem,,,,,go back into the case and make sure that all the drive keys are properly in place on the shafts and drive gears,,,,if you dropped a key somewhere along the way, it could act the way you describe.
