Im replacing my cam in 2024 117. Ive only done this one other time.. Last time I removed the cam/crank sprockets and chain all together and never moved them off their location on the cam chain. For whatever reason I didn't do that this time. I took the sprockets off the chain. ...also I rotated the engine afterwards.
Im now questioning if the crank and the cam can become out of time ? If the dot on the cam sprocket is at 6 o'clock and the the dot on the crank sprocket is at 12 o'clock can the cam still be out of timing since I turned the crank randomly while having everything apart?
As long as the dots line up you're good. You have to remove the chain from the sprockets to be able to measure that the spacer behind the cam is right.
