Bike would not start. Acted like a dead battery. replaced it with new one and it started right up. Problem solved I thought. Let it run for ten minnutes or so so I could change the oil. Shut it off and tried to start again and had the same problem. It tried to turn over once (acted like the battery was dead) on second push of start button it made clattering noise. Pushed it into garage later on and tried it agin and started right up. Next morning tried to start and same problem first tried to turn over like a dead battery then clattering noise.
Switched battery with one from my electra glide which is starting fine and still the same problem.
Checked battery cables, all tight and clean.
Removed all cables from ground on frame, cleaned and reinstalled tightly. Still nothing.
Checked voltage at battery 12.79v.
Checked voltage at starter 12.79v
Checked voltage at battery with start button depressed 12.5v.
Checked voltage at starter with start button depressed - drops dramatically to 1 - 2v.
New battery was fully charged and from hd dealer. Also switched it with my electra glide battery that starts fine and still the same problem. The clattering is loud (like jackhammer).
