Default 80" or 96" Evo Engine?

Hey guys,

I just started another build and am having some trouble. I bought an engine today for the project. I was told it is a 96" EVO however I do not know how to confirm that. It has S&S cases 31-0005R. The cylinders have no markings. The heads are factory Harley EVO heads. I pulled a cylinder and head. The pistons are just your run of the mill flat tops. I have not been able to locate my micrometer yet to take exact bore. What should the bore be on a stock 80' engine vs. a 96"?

Thanks
Travis

Hi Travis,

If you have a head off you can measure the bore and stroke easily and work out it's approximate capacity. Just measure it as closely as you can, doesn't have to be dead accurate.

It is either an 80, 89 or the claimed 96, I would guess. Stock bore is 3.5" and stroke is 4.25". Normal stroker crankshaft is 4.625", and a 96" would have a bore of around 3.625", in addition to the longer stroke.

A 96" using stock stroke would have a bore of around 3.8". I think that is unlikely.

Hope that helps.
