I have a question for anyone who has a lot of experience with the bottom ends of the twin cams. I have a 06 dyna that I am having Scott at hillside do a build on. I was going to have the stock 88 crank welded and figured sense I'm doing that I can spend 600 and get the 07 and up flywheel to make it a 107 and have it welded I should be good right??? Well I called and spoke to a reputable crank shop (super nice and very helpful) and was told the big issue is the connecting rods and to upgrade those before anything heres my options.
#1 I'm looking at 580 for the stock 96 crank and 200 to weld it total 800$
#2 580 for stock crank 400 for the rod upgrade + balance and 200 to weld 1200
#3 s&s with "big end rods" welded 1300
#4 cvo crank and have it welded 1000 for the crank and 200 for the weld 1200
but the question is is it neccesary I plan on making in the 125hp range I want it to be reliable but I don't have money to burn thank you very much in advance

If Scott is building the motor, put the question to him; he can advise the most cost effective way to get to 107". No reflection on Scott but it's a push to make 125HP with 107" but if you can hit that number, you should definitely address the crank.
The 06 dyna should have the rods with the full small end bushing and not the tapered rods, at least my own and one other I did had the full rods. If you are going to build a 107 then the SE crank is actually a very nice unit as well as the press together R&R units, they have a dynamic balancing system that is second to none if you plan on doing a balance job as well. S&S would be at the bottom of my list for crankshafts.
