Default 1997 Softail Custom forward cylinder cuts out

I have a 97 softail custom that I am having a problem with the forward cylinder cutting out. I can start the bike and it idles fine but when I put it in gear and give it gas the forward cylinder cuts out. I changed the plugs, wires, and was going to change the coil but if it was that I would think I would be having a problem with both cylinders. I did some research and it sounds like it could be the cam position sensor but its a little expensive to buy on a hunch. If anyone has had a problem like this and has any ideas even if its reassurance on the cam sensor I would appreciate it.
