Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
putting my 11 FXDWG back together. pushrods have been adjusted ect. i rotate the engine several time to check for any issues. i notice when the rocker arm is completly down, i can thumb alittle squish. should there be anywiggle at all? i remember when i tore down there was no movement at all. I have made the switch to adjustables and hydrualic lifters. should i worry? or is this just the hydraulic lifters. the lifter soaked in oil for about 4-5days prior to install.
i can turn them. but i put my thumb on the rocker arm right above the pushrod. and when the lifter is at the bottom i can thumb alittle down. is this cause the lifters arent fully pumped or the pushrods not tight enough?
If they are pumping down a little, it should clear up as soon as you start the motor.
I would leave it the way it is and fire it up and let the oil pressure come up...If they quiet right down with oil pressure, they're fine if they keep rattling for more than 15/20 seconds....They're too loose.
They'll probably sound horrible 'til they pump up though.
should i give the ones that have a little play at the top of the rocker arm another rotation and take the play out? the pushrods are firmly against the rocker arm. and only has the squish at the bottom
roger that. thank you. once i get it fired up ill give it 30sec. if it continues ill shut er down. pop the pushrod tubes and put them down a turn and go from there.thank you
Nah....Give them a try, they're most likely fine.
They're certainly not loose enough to hurt anything by starting the engine as long as the jam nuts are all tight.

If you have to re-adjust them after the lifters are pumped up, take the time to back them all off and do the adjustment the way the instructions say to for "wet" lifters.
I seriously doubt that you'll have to mess with them though.
