Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
So to start list what's been done
This is a 1986 evo 1340
Heads where ported and polished
Valve job
New valves
New springs
Put new pistons
10:1
New andrews ev27 cam and bearing
Andrews adjustable pushrods
S&s lifters
Oil is 40/45 psi when cold at idle
The around 30 psi when hot at idle
It runs great with no problems other then top end chatter noise when warm can not figure it out I pulled the heads and brought them back to the shop that did them he went through them pulled them apart and found nothing, Checked rocker box s to see if new springs maybe hitting
Nothing, valves and pistons have plenty of clearance
My question is if the valve springs he used are to heavy would it cause the valves to slap shut? or could the springs make the noise themselves like the inner spring was contacting the outer? the noise is coming from the top of the head
It's definitely not a lifter problem or pushrod adjustment been thru that a 100 times and replaced both figuring something was bad but not the case
Should I try re adjusting them again
I've adjusted them a couple times now but the noise in the top end will not go a way
They've been adjusted from 2, 2 1/2 now 3 turns and the noise has never changed
I've heard that it's not a good idea to run amsoil in the older evos. I'm an amsoil guy in everything else but I was told that the evos actually need some decent viscosity and that amsoil is too smooth. Please let me now if you you've heard different.
