Like the title says I need help. I have a '00 FLTRI with SE 95" flat top pistons, '06 Scotsman heads by Short Block Charlie's decked for 10:1 CR with .030 gaskets, SE hyd. cam plate, Gaterman Lifters, S&S 52mm single bore throttle body, S&S ecm with O2 sensors, 2-1-2 head pipes with V&H Hi Output slipons. . I installed a set of Andrews 37. Got bad info that they were good to 10:1 compression. I'm getting some pinging, detonation at about 2.0-3.5 rpms. I originally wanted to use Headquarters 39 cams, but the tech adviser on the HQ forum advised against them. I've been working with Tom Hampton @ S&S he's confident that he can tune the ping out, I'm not doubting him. But I think I could get more out the motor with more aggressive cams. I'm thinking S&S 570's or Andrews 54's. I'm looking for torque. I weigh 260# and ride solo about 80% of the time, keep the passenger 150# or lower.

The 37 is a great cam and with a tuner that knows what he is doing it should still be tunable at 10 to 1 if 91 octane is readily available. That being said the 570 will be right at home and pull out the top better as long as you have the springs and heads setup for it. Also keep in mind the 570 will require adjustable pushrods as the base circle is slightly smaller than stock. The S&S VFI is a nice system in the right hands, has live tuning capabilities and a wide range of adjustment
I had a 95ci with 10.0 compression and se204 cams with no pinging. The 37's are a tad more aggressive than the 204's so I bet you can tune out the pinging. That would certainly be the cheapest solution.

I may have jumped the gun. Replaced my fuel filter, pump, and flex tubing in the gas tank. Had the S&S tech do some timing and fuel adjustments on my map. Bike is running good now. I still may want to go with hotter cams this winter, for now I'm just going to ride. Thanks for all the replys. Any more input would be appreciated.
S&S .570's, Wood 6(10.25 cr)or an Andrews 37 are at home at 10.0 cr.
Dan Thayer, of Thayers Sales & Service, Corfu, NY, recently tuned one our 98" kits that our client assembled at home.
OE t/body, Rhinehart duals.........114/115........is that the kind of pump-gas friendly power your looking for?

Closure, I'm bringing up an old thread as not to leave it hanging. After issues with my original 95" build. I gave it up after 9900 miles.

I went with a S&S 97" kit & 570 cams, Dyno Tune. I'm happy now.
I see that it was tuned at RC Cycles.
We suggest our West Coast clients visit them when tuning, as IMO, Bob is one of the best tuners in the country.

Mark Lukas actually tuned it. I told him he needs to put his name on the dyno sheet, but he didn't. Mark had the patience to do it right. It took about 4 hours to tune. It wasn't easy to find some that will tune the S&S VFI system.
