Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
What I was told was much different many dealers and shops told me to stay with cast pistons... Many issues I was told with the forged pistons since they have more issues with heat. Some really high end shops told me to build a moter off cast pistons
I put 27k on my kit and hurt the cranks last month. I just shipped them to s and s. Today to get rebuilt. Bike did put out 114hp.
Sucks to hear that your crank got f*&Ked up, but after you get it beefed up it will be solid. I like the looks of 114hp! What kind of head work do you have done? What size cam?

Cast pistons are for more 'stockish' type builds and they will perform OK for most guys. The big thing is you have to heat up forges pistons a tad bit and cast you do not.
Forged will take one helluva punishment that would destroy a cast piston.
Plus... cast pistons are only made for 88, 95, 96 and 103 sizes. ANY other size will be forged anyways. (110 pistons can be had cast... but I coud never recommend one do a 110 build, ends up being a bad deal all around. 113 is MUCH better, same with 107 and 117 builds.

with a good tune, you too should be in the 114HP area
I wanted at least 110 and shes got 113hp/118tq SAE w/ 5 smoothing & 6th gear pull.
This was not a tune, just dyno. She flat lines at around 5,600, which i'm not happy about, but a bigger throttle body, injectors, & head runners will solve that(running stock t-body and intake runners in heads for now).
he`s got my headwork, this is the guy that went on & on about me leaving the port opening stock, instead of going 1.760 (even though he was running the stock t. body).dont think it turned out too shabby for not being tuned yet
