Well there are bound to be a whole lot of HD owners out there experiencing INA failures. Just as many with no failures as well. I do know this much. If I keep the Fatboy and after the warranty is up, Its going get different cam, bearing and breather gear. It would be nice to get a bigger ride like the Ultra but the CO-PILOT is happy doin the day trips and stuff. Thanks for your input, its all good. Just a question: In 1996 What size engine would a touring bike like Electra Glide or comparable size bike have installed stock? Would it be 1340 V2? Same as the Fatboy?
What sort of warranty are they going to offer you?
If you ever get the co-pilot on a dresser.....that's what you'll keep. Likely may need two. One cruiser for you to play on and one dresser for the roommate to ride. A Road King or a Standard is a good in-between choice. I was quite surprised to discover how much lighter the RK feels than a dresser. It's only something like 70-80 pounds lighter, but to me....it handles more like a cruiser.
Originally they were going to give the standard 1 year. However, once I got to talking to the service rep, I told him that won't do. What good is a 1 year warranty when the bike sits for 6 months through winter while the warranty clock ticks. I figured with what I am doing for their business they should give me 6 months for each season. The first next year and the second the following. A car is different, you drive 365 days with it not so with a bike, at least not in snow, which we live in almost 6 months of the year. Yeah she's been on a dresser, and ya she loves it. She is the one constant that keeps me riding cause she enjoys it. $30-32,000 up here for Ultra new. Not sure I would buy used unless the mileage was super low.
Thanks for that. I have been trying to figure out why the cam bearing AND the crank pin went with so little miles on the bike. After reading other threads with owners getting nigh on up in the 75-100,000 miles on their EVO it is a mystery to me how mine could have gone at 37,000 mi. I was just fishing for clues and wondered if the weight factor load the engine was under for many of those 37,000 was partially to blame. The GVWR on the Fatboy is 1118 lbs. When we go for a trip I bet we are maxed out with saddle bags and sissy bar bags. The Ultra GVWR is 1179. I know the last dyno readout I had was 62 hp with the stage 1. It felt like the bike had enough on the flats but the hills left me with lots of throttle but nothing left in the coal bin. So I was just wonderin if I asked too much from the 80". Then I wondered if the dressers had the same or more when stock. Cause we looked at them when we travelled and I figured with the trunk, saddle bags and just bigger they must be more cubes. Just a Thought. I was very particular with my servicing. Probably changed oils and filter more often than I should have but I look at that as being cheap to do.

Oh for sure. The Harley Tech even said it could have originated from factory by over tighten on the bearing on installation. Or something like that??? There must be something to the quality of the motor or else the forum would be inundated with stories of bad experiences.
Got a question regarding the engine. Is there a market for the engine coming out of the bike in the condition it is in? What kind of price would I put on it to sell it? I do not want it hanging around the yard.
really wouldn't be much,your better off just getting it rebuilt.then your keeping all the right #`s,which helps a lot from no hassles titling ,insuring & with resale value
A warranty is probably a negotiable issue. I know that my dealer would make-it-good up to a certain point in time if any failure was due to something they had done, but I think that's going to depend on your dealer.
