Default Compensator Part # ?

Hey gang, wasn't sure where to post this question, but a couple of years ago my dealer replaced the compensator in my 2008 Street Glide under warranty as it wasn't getting pretty bad. My local Indy, did some minor servicing to the bike, and noticed it was making some noise(comp) and he told me to keep an eye and ear on it. This is the part # the dealer put in : 40274-08A. Is this a Screaming Eagle Comp or is it just a stock one he replaced. Thanks to every one in advance as always appreciate your help....

Joe

Pretty sure that's the OEM compensator but an upgrade to the original PN. The SE PN for your bike is 40100061 and you should purchase the "adhesive" kit as well, PN 11100088.

Thanks djl, always appreciate your advice and help. What kind of noises should I be listening for? some say to listen carefully when shutting bike off. I here a strange rattle clanking sound sometimes at low speed/crawling into garage or gas station, always first gear. Is the SE part # that much stronger better than what my dealer put in? I got ext esp until this Christmas, so want to get as much replaced as possible. No new bike for me; I've already been warned...lol.
Thx again bro,
cheers,

Joe

You will hear the noise when you start the bike shut it down or as you said when your creeping "lugging" the engine. If you have the Ext warr get it taken care of before it runs out. Or now why stress about it unless your deductible is ridiculous. But $0-50 is what we see.

jat3 is correct on the noise. The new compensator seems to be working as long as the adhesive kit is also installed to provide the proper lubrication. There is an alternative kit, the Compensaver, that is getting good reports.

40274-08A is the upgraded vision of the original SE comp, 40274-08, not the OEM comp. The latest SE comp is quite a bit different, with improved oiling to the sprocket bearing surface.
Part # 40100061 includes the rotor. As you already have the earlier SE comp, 40274-08A, you should already have the required rotor for the latest comp, which is 42200064A.- Rob
