Had a local shop (not a Harley shop) tell me that the noise I hear when starting my bike (2008 Street Glide 103 stage II) is the compensator and that Harley has a big compensator issue on their 2006-2012 bikes. He also said this also is the noise hear sometimes when shifting and could cause a lot of damage if not taken care of. He quoted me about $600.00 to replace it with a new Screaming Eagle compensator which he said was a good upgrade.
I see from the forum that others have had issues with their compensator. What does a Harley dealer charge for this repair? Does Harley acknowledge the problem and are they offering any help with the repair cost?

Any suggestion on best way course of action?
They charge too much.
Yes they acknowledge the problem, no they won't offer any help on the repair cost.
Suggestion on best course of action is to buy an SE comp and do it yourself. Grab the comp, gaskets and fluid, change the inner primary bearing whilst in there, put in the -98A clutch disk and a Hayden M6-BT07 tensioner.
