My 97 flht (carbed) shuts off when it gets hot. The bike will start right up and will idle fine at 900 rpm wither choke on the super e all the way down. As it gets hot, it just shuts down.
Bike has has a new pingel gas tap and super e - and the tanks is clean.
The cam position sensor is not leaking or melting , but it looks a little crispy where the wires connect to the insulator block
I can’t find anything in the service manual that shows how to test the cps.
Any ideas?? I may order the standard motor parts replacement just to rule it out.

When wires look crispy that's usually a good indicator that a short has happened.
I'd replace the CPS and go from there.
If If anything it's a great tool for $40... I would do an ohms test on the coil though as well...
Bikes, cars, and trucks of age, symptom when it heats up or after it runs a while is shuts off. Well it's not the air, it's still there. Carbed won't be fuel. What's left???? - SPARK.
I vote coil. As stated earlier, troubleshooting process for ignition will save throwing money at it.

I second the coil possibility. The wires looking a little crispy need attention anyway, cause or not.

Tell you how to test crusty wires. Go riding in the rain. You'll only do it once and when your leg gets tired of holding it our, you'll get new energy.
