I just bought a 1988 Electra Glide and need to repaint the top of one bag, the problem is that I'm not sure what red it is. It looks to be a two part color maybe a silver fine flake base with a candy color over it I know it has the orange pinstripe and I think I know which pinstripe to get it's the red that I'm not sure of. The choices seem to be Luxury Rich Red, Lava Red Sunglo and Sierra Red. Any help is appreciated. Here's a pic if it helps.
you can do a google search for "1988 Harley Davidson paint codes" and it will be pretty easy to find.
I did and came up with three reds for that year. I'm not sure which it is. I want to order touch up from Colorite but it's expensive and I want to get it right. Mine seems to be a tri coat and there may only be one of those for 88. I'll keep digging.
Thanks
STEVE
those colors you found are copies of Harley paint they will be close to a match but not perfect your bike is a 1988 its 24 years old even if you got the right code it wouldn't match perfectly because of uv fading you need to find a body shop or paint store that does color match to get the color as close as possible and a good painter can tone it to match the bike

I was just at my local paint store and we came up with something close but they don't mix that particular paint because of VOC restrictions. I will be checking another that they recommended today and see what they come up with. I understand the fading and all that I just wanted to get as close as possible. I will do the painting myself. Most of it is touch up dings and stuff but I wanted to paint the top of one of the bags, it's in bad shape and needs work. The other options I'm looking at is cover the tops of the bags in leather (my son in-law can do that) or paint it black. Just checking all options.
I have a 1998 in mystique green that I found a PPG paint code on line. It was a perfect match. The list of PPG Paint codes that I have, only goes back to 1992.
To be honest your paint doesn't look stock to me, I suspect it has already been repainted.
Your are half right. The PO had sprayed the bags and the top of the faring with an acrylic clear with metal flake in it. and got overspray on everything and the tops of the bags and the lower sections of the bags were painted black with I'm not sure what kind of paint. I scraped (yes scraped) off all of the clearcoat and the black paint and revealed a beautiful original paint. I'll post some pics of the finished product sometime today if the sun comes out. I think I'm gonna put leather on the tops of the bags and just try to come up with some touch up paint for the nicks and dings otherwise I am very happy with how it is looking.
