Very interesting but I think it will cost more than $20.
Hell the gas alone for the 400 mile round trip would be more than I'm willing to spend on this project.
Man, Helicoil kits are now $35!! There's that inflation we don't have.
No kidding!! I found that a Time Cert or Thread Cert is more cost effective and much better in most cases.. No special tools needed, just the right size bit.. I need it so rarely, I cant see buying a whole kit for the random size..

time certs are way more expensive. the kit I just bought last week was 11mm x 1.5 with shipping 108.96 and the kit only has 5 time certs in it.

Yea, I guess alot o it depends on what size it is and if you have the bits and tap that work with them.. Didnt find your size here, but Keysert's have worked well for me too..
time certs have specific tools for each size. just a tap and drill wont work
first you drill the hole then you use the counter bore tool to cut the counter sink.
then tap the hole. next is the installation tool. if you just screw it in it wont hold you have to use the tool to lock it in.
Maybe I haven't read far enough into the thread yet but here is a suggestion I haven't heard mentioned. I have heard of guys using a wire feed welder and welding a hex nut onto the end of a broken bolt. Cool it off real good with water right away so it hardens up. Soak it for a long time with WD40 then try a little heat and give the nut a turn. Might get lucky?
Why bother replying to a thread that you haven't read? It just makes you look, well, dull.
4 pages into it and I needed to walk away from PC. Thought I had a good idea to share and didn't want to forget to post it. Sorry for being Dull! Little did I know the very next page suggested something similar. Now if I wouldn't have mentioned I hadn't read the whole thread, that would have been ok huh? My bad!
