I tested the voes and it fails intermittently which might explain everything. Even if it aint the whole problem its still broken.
Just like mine. I found a new oem one on eBay. You can't buy them from Harley. You'll have to go aftermarket or eBay new old stock. They are color coded with a dot on them for the different ones.

Thanks, I may go Dyna S and forego the VOEs... Not sure yet. Would sometimes read up to two ohms.

I bought a new VOES from Harley just a few months ago.
Why do you say you can't?
The VOES will not cause that kind of problem. I think it will still work even at 2-50 ohms. All it does is put a ground on the ignition module, and it does not have to be 0 ohms. When it does drop out it just retards the timing. I have a switch in series with mine so that I can switch it out of the circuit manually when I want to. It will not cause the bike to stumble, hicup or miss.

FSM says that if the VOES does not ohm out under 1 ohm then it is faulty.

mine wouldn't idle with the bad VOES at all. It said my VOES was no longer avail. Maybe some are and some aren't. A 98 wasn't.
Tman, when I bought wires the screaming eagle version at the dealer was cheaper and a lot thicker than the oem replacement and the aftermarket versions.

Good info.
I'm going to drain the gas, yank the bowl off the carb, and possibly replace the intake gaskets too. No surprise the VOES broke on this thing though... the PO only put 20k miles on it in 17 years... everything has been breaking or leaking one right after the other and it's just a byproduct of old, rotted, not used/taken care of junk.

Need to be back on 2 wheels ASAP.
Remember you had a petcock issue? I'm thinking mine broke because my petcock leaked gas into the vacuum line. Like I said earlier there was gas in the VOES diaphragm when I cut it open. It's possible yours did the same when your crankcase filled with gas? I'd check the gaskets on your petcock as the vac line goes from there right to a t then to the VOES. It doesn't sound possible but I'm 100% sure gas got in mine.

Doesn't surprise me one bit... but that petcock has been long gone anyways along with the T hardware.
