Default brake light

Evening all, I was checking my lights today on my 85 FLTC and noticed when I use my foot brake I have no brake light but when I use the hand brake it's fine.....any ideas?

Rear brake switch or rear bulb.

I checked the bulb and it's good. Probably the switch.

First unplug and plug in the wires going to your inline switch and try again to make sure it isn't just corrosion build up.

Pick up a small tube of dielectric grease to use on all connections. I'll be broken wire or connection. You might try jumping the brake light switch to see if its working.

Take off one lead only from the rear switch and see if your brake lights come on. This is a cheap and free test. On my Softail I jacked up the bike on a cinder block under each wheel and wood blocked the kickstand so I didn't have to take the exhaust off. The auto parts store switches are just zinc and will probably get rusty in a few years but then again they're only six bucks.

You need to join the wires to test the switch. If you replace the switch the brakes usually don't need bleeding afterwards.

Thanks for all the suggestions but I found the issue. I took the wires off and cleaned everything and then a little dielectric grease and brake light works fine. Nice cheap repair.
