Bungo, I would be inclined to follow the CB console wiring back to where it starts, say to the radio, and remove it from there. That should ensure there is nothing potentially live hanging around.
I agree with grbrown , the best way to remove the system is to remove the entire system including the wiring .
If this is not possible then you should terminate the old wires with silicone injected butt connectors and not tape.
Squirt a shot of silicone into each butt connector , then crimp as usual.
This will provide a cheap weatherproof wire termination .

Hi,I have looked inside the console and the wiring for the CB & Radio alone would be a nightmare (for me!) to attempt stripping it out. Have noted your comments re. wire termination. Many thanks for response. Bungo
