A question crossed my mind. If someone might know or remember.

What kind of paint would be on this 1997 FLHT standard. Gotta get on another computer to get a pic up here

Well it started as a standard

Thanks WP

I did 3 coats black primer then wet sand ,two coats dark blue mica ,five coats of clear ,wet sand 2000 then 3000 buff without trying to rush it,light pressure!!
Follow recoat instructions for your paint selection, all my coats were within ten minutes of each other per manufacturer. acrylic enamel.

Water based paints were just being pushed when I got out of working in a body shop in 83 or so.

GM tried it real early and it was a huge failure. Im thinking they tried it in gold metallic on trans am cars somewhere between 78-81. It would come off in big sheets after spraying. Sometime blow it off with compressed air.
The thing about wb, how is there an environmental savings when the booth has to be 100 degrees?

ALSO !! Not sure if you are sandblasting the tins as I did but there is nothing better than chassis saver to coat
the under side of your fenders. You brush it on,I used gloss black,1/2 pint goes a long way. This is applied to bare metal and will never peel or chip,it will outlast the bike. Check into this stuff. Not cheap but worth the money.

Is that like por or rust bullet? Anything sold by the pint or ounces is expensive.

No intention of sandblasting. The couple of fellas that have seen the bike in person both mentioned. " Just sand it good and use a good primer sealer"

Not laquer if that's your question
Harley stopped using laquer in the mid 80"s
Mid 90's, I dunno. Probably acrylic enamel. But if your wondering if its safe to shoot on top of, yes, will be fine. Finish with 400-600 wet. If you want to be sure of seeing no sand scratches in the finish, take it to 600.

I debated a good bit about painting it.Up close it shows it's age better than in the pic. Parking lots will have a ton of black bikes. I just like the white for a change
