And the fun part is, virtually no exhaust manufacturer claims that their exhaust will fit an 84-85...they all say 86-99...I have run several exhaust that said they only fit 86-99.
Which exhausts are on your bikes, if they are yours?
You can do it from a kit, at least I did way back when. I assume they're still available. You don't have to change the mainshaft, there is an extension that threads onto the end of it. You'll need to change the side door for the one in the kit, but with a special puller you can do it while it's still on the bike. You can do the whole job in a weekend.
My staggered duals that I had before the mod fit fine after, I did have to elongate the mounting holes a touch. The one downside to the whole thing is that as someone mentioned, it sticks out a bit. Not a problem when riding & feet up but you have to straddle it at a stop.
Is a compression release needed? Can a stock ignition work on a '92 or would i need something like a Dyna S?
I need more information to answer your questions.
What size pistons do you have?
If stock then you don't need compression releases.
Can a stock ignition work on what?
Do you have electronic ignition?
So true, probably because some 84's had shovels and some had new evo. Which of course wouldn't fit both but when you know what you got you know what should work. It's been fun learning what fits an 85-86wide glide, kinda like a mutt but I like it.
Ha!
Same with my 85 Low Rider. I'll never sell it tho!
