Cam bearing explosion
It let go big time and the guy rode it for several miles like this (how he didn't notice the vibration I cannot say) he realised something was up when it started puking oil out of the air cleaner.
I pulled it apart and found the inner cam bearing on the front cam had **** itself and eaten away at the bearing surface on the cam and had taken out the bearing in a big way....there were needles and bits of needles all over the inside of the crankcases.
Once we got it pulled down we found the outer race had been eaten away and the needles had bashed up the surface where the bearing sits...it looked like a write-off.
Thankfully the very skilled Dave McPhail at Speed & Custom in Pukerua Bay (NZ) managed to re-sleeve the crankcase so that a new bearing could be fitted.
It cost $345 bucks in NZ money but that is a fraction of what a new set of cases costs.
Moral of this story? A good Indy is your best asset if you are going to go around destroying Harley motors....
